Florida Cycling
Well, when you schedule a trip in late February you hope for an early spring, but a dozen GWS cyclists and spouses got a taste of late winter instead. We dodged rain for two days and got in a 20 mile ride one of those days, and then had a nice but cold ride on the Hawthorne to Gainesville rail trail, with stops for birding and sightseeing at Paine's Prairie. Two sandhill cranes were so used to people that we could walk right up to them and they just kept eating. In between rides we had some visits into Gainesville, Palatka, and Starke for movies, meals, and sightseeing. We also enjoyed good fellowship several evenings, including a chili dinner together, but something about folks staying in cabins created a rip in the fabric of the usual GWS social life--no one wanted a campfire at night! When the last firebug leaves for good, turn out the GWS light.
