It was just Curt Cole and me. We started the day with sprinkles and cloudy skies and we thought we would be in for some heavy showers, it had called for some thunder storms in the afternoon, but we were fortunate to escape this. The temperature was 70 degrees. We started 10:40am at Lorrain Park 3465 GA-138. Curt talked some to one of the mainte-nance workers and he talked about the work that they do to keep the area up. They had put a new dock up that made it easier to put a kayak in. Also easier for a disabled person.
One of the places that Curt and I had taken out before, located at 5.5 miles, has a new paved parking lot. Before we had to park alongside the road. I remember this place because Curt said my kayak was floating down the river, we just managed
to save it. I now make sure I have my kayak up enough from the water. We ate lunch on a small sand bar overlooking the pretty river with beautiful greenery and some rock formations. We finished at GA-20, but before we did it was a little tricky trying to get over some of the rocks. Curt stayed in the middle which was the best route, then we had to paddle slightly up river to take out. It was hard to take up to the vehicle. We both carried one boat at a time over rocks and weeds uphill a little way. When Curt got ahead a little way after lunch, he saw 5 deer on sep-arate occasions. Water level at Klondike Rd was a little over 5 feet above where we started. When I dipped paddle in water at Lorraine Park it was about a foot. Ended up doing 11 miles on a great trip, if you didn’t do this trip hopefully you can do it, it’s beautiful. Thank you to Curt for joining me on this trip.
